The highly anticipated NBA All-Star Game is approaching. The game itself is just an exhibition game, but it is famous for its star power. The event brings the most recognized names in the NBA together for a thrilling match-up.
The National Basketball Association’s All-Star Game will be played on February 19, 2017, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. This 66th edition of the event was initially scheduled to be played at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The venue was changed, however, due to the controversy arising from North Carolina’s bathroom bill or House Bill 2.
The All-Star Game is the main event of the NBA All-Star Weekend. Two teams—one from the Eastern Conference and the other from the Western Conference—will face off in the game. Each team will have 12 players – five starters and seven reserves. The starters are selected by fans, and the reserves are chosen by the conference’s coaches. The NBA commissioner will select a replacement in the event that a selectedathleteis unable to play on game day.
From the time the All-Star Game was first held in 1951 to the present, the Eastern Conference has had more championships than its Western counterpart. However, from the year 2000 to the present, the Western Conference has dominated the Eastern Conference. This year’s game is expected to be a toss-up between the two conferences because the teams are so equally matched.
The All-Star Weekend features other events such as the slum dunk contest, a competition that showcases the athletic ability and creativity of the participating players. There is also a contest between the best three-point shooters and a skills challenge involving a timed obstacle course.
The All-Star Game will feature longstanding favorite players as well as rising stars who have made marked improvements since they started in the NBA (including Devin Booker, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Clint Capela, Harrison Barnes, Jonas Valanciunas, Kyrie Irving, D’AngeloRussel, and Andre Drummond).
