2017 NBA Finals

The NBA playoffs have begun. Teams will be vying for their respective conference championships with the winners facing off in the championship series that begins on June 1.

2017 NBA Finals

LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers are the NBA’s defending champions. They beat the Golden State Warriors who had earned the home-court advantage with their regular season record of 73-9. Golden State, the crowd favorite last year, jumped to a 2-0 lead. When the series moved to Cleveland, the Cavaliers responded with a win on their home court. The Warriors won the fourth game for a 3-1 series. The Cavaliers bounced back and won the next three games, becoming the first team in NBA Finals history to recover from a 3-1 deficit.

The victory was very momentous for the city of Cleveland. Not only was it the first championship for the Cleveland Cavaliers, it was the first championship a Cleveland professional team had won since 1964. LeBron James was selected as the NBA Finals MVP.

In this year’s NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors will try again to get the coveted championship. The Warriors have already eliminated the Portland Trailblazers in the first round of the playoffs and will be facing the Utah Jazz in the second round.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have eliminated the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs and will be facing the Toronto Raptors in the second round. NBA analysts see the great possibility of a repeat of last year’s NBA Finals, with the Cavaliers and Warriors squaring off again for the Larry O’Brien trophy.
